He graduated from Fairbanks High School in 2013, where he was a star athlete and a student leader. He moved to Florida in 2014, where he attended the Florida Highway Patrol Academy. He graduated in 2015 and was assigned to Troop L out of Port St. Lucie. He was passionate about his job and dedicated to serving and protecting the public. He received several commendations and awards for his performance and bravery.

Zach Finkel is survived by his wife, Ashley, whom he married in 2018, and their two children, Zachary Jr. and Zoey, who were born in 2019 and 2021, respectively. He also leaves behind his parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing sports, fishing, and traveling. He was a kind, generous, and fun person. He inspired many people with his courage and his spirit. The Florida Highway Patrol honored him with a funeral service and a procession, where hundreds of law enforcement officers and civilians paid their respects.
